The recent best debut award at the 2004 MVPAs, and a bronze Clio, has cemented Daniel Levi’s status in the top tier of current promo directing talent. His visualisation of Asian glitch-hop schoolgirls becoming more deformed both physically and emotionally by the fearsome electronic pulses of LFO may have echoes of Chris Cunningham’s best work but that’s no bad thing. And his continuing mutation theme in Massive Attack’s Butterfly Caught illustrate an eye as well as an ear for intriguing cinematic atmospherics.
Schoolyard fights have never been so sinister…
